Rietlanden
In Rietlanden, in het past a marshy place, all kinds of traffic come together: the almost 2 km long Piet Hein Tunnel, a new road to the centre, a new express tram. Despite these bad conditions Ton Schaap, urban designer of the city of Amsterdam, made an exciting district.
He designed in this area a park – the only one of the district. And he contracted architects who created blocks that refer to the harbour past, not just unpleasant and taut boxes. Moreover may, many old buildings were preserved. The combination of the old and new, is striking. Part of the district are Oostelijke Handelskade and Veemkade, here described on an separate page >> .
